Spotlight keeps crashing after last update (iOS 14)

After the latest update today, I keep getting Spotlight crashes:

Code Block text
Process: Spotlight [1045]
Path: /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles/Runtimes/iOS.simruntime/Contents/Resources/RuntimeRoot/Applications/Spotlight.app/Spotlight
Identifier: Spotlight
Version: 1.0 (1)
Code Type: X86-64 (Native)
Parent Process: launchd_sim [795]
Responsible: SimulatorTrampoline [608]
User ID: 501
Date/Time: 2020-09-16 17:41:37.406 -0300
OS Version: Mac OS X 10.15.6 (19G2021)
Report Version: 12
Bridge OS Version: 4.6 (17P6610)
Anonymous UUID: 260183B2-AF37-5945-6F4E-5B564D139345

Appears to be related to the Simulator, which I have to use constantly during development. This is quickly getting annoying.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any fix?

This is a Mac Mini 2018.
Definitely related to opening the Simulator. Happens every time immediately after it.

Already tried
Code Block shell
sudo mdutil -E /

Should I reinstall Xcode entirely?
Reinstalling Xcode did NOT work.
Having the same issue here after updating xcode to the latest version

I think this started for me after installing Xcode from the developer portal. I was previously using Xcode from the App Store, but it was crashing when I tried to open the developer documentation; the fix for that was downloading Xcode from the dev portal.

I think this is worse and I may reinstall from the App Store.
I have the same.

Kernal_task bumps to 300% when the simulator opens and nothing seems to work properly.
For me, this started to happen after I updated to macOS 10.15.7
This started happening for me after I updated to Xcode 12 (using Xamarin and Visual Studio for Mac) and the latest Xamarin and After I changed the application icon via Assets.xcassets. I do see this in my screen dump farther down:

11 dyld_sim 0x00000001071ea14c ImageLoader::recursiveLoadLibraries(ImageLoader::LinkContext const&, bool, ImageLoader::RPathChain const&, char const*) + 346

I wonder if it has something to do with the spotlight icon for my app?

Edit: I just went to spotlight on the simulator - I see blank icons for my app (underneath the spotlight entry box). I clicked on one of them and my app opened. Then I closed all the running apps and went to spotlight again and I now see my apps icon. I then started my app in the debugger again and so far (about 10 minutes) no spotlight error.

I am getting the same issue. Very annoying!

:( I have the same issue

xCode: 12.0.1
having the same issue
same here. reinstalling Xcode did not work.
Same problem with me. There seems to be no workaround.

Mac mini (2018)
Android Studio
Simulator
Same here :\
Same issue for me.
  • macOS Catalina 10.15.6

  • xcode 12.0.1

  • Macbook Pro 15" 2017 with 3.1ghz i7 and 16gb 2133mhz LPDDR3.

When I use the preview-feature in SwiftUI, or run the simulator, fans start to run full speed until Spotlight eventually crashes. If I restart spotlight it just keeps crashing every once in a while.
Still a problem. Particularly when I use the canvas preview in SwiftUI.
Same here, every time I open iOS simulator, this problem appears.
I was having the same issue. I thought that removing and reading the simulators would help, it didn't
  1. Open Xcode

  2. Expand the simulator list

  3. Click "Add additional Simulators"

  4. Delete all the simulators from the list

  5. Close and reopen Xcode

  6. Expand the simulator list

  7. Click "Add additional Simulators"

  8. Click the "+" to add each Simulator back

And on top of spotlight crashing, the simulator is EXTREMELY SLOOOWWWWW

This is making it really hard to work on my apps :(
This error no longer appears after updating xcode to version 12.1
