Mail problem on Big Sur

Last weekend I downloaded MacOS Big Sur. All was well, for the most part. However, Apple Mail would not function. So I moved the Mail file from the Library to the desktop and everything has been fine. What do I do now? I can't seem move the file back. Recommendations? Thanks!
Since I updated my OS to Big Sur, Mail is not working properly, the "Search" function does not work at all and "flagged" items are not synced with my other devices. I am so disappointed. I can't find anything now. How do I fix this?
Restart and open Mail. It will rebuild everything fine.
Moving the ~/Library/Mail folder out to the Desktop and letting Mail remake the folder worked for me in this Case too as described here: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/649882

I have the exact same problem! This led me here.

Apple please fix this!
I have the exact same issue. Got a new macbook air, with Big Sur last week, from work. Since then, only problems with mail app. Search function worked the first day. Next time I logged on, didn't work whatsoever. And the mails from post@ and admin@ were all mixed together. I managed to fix both, but then next time I logged on, same f problem. Happened three times now! The mails today were all in both post@ and admin@ boxes... (all together) ...suddenly that fixed itself after an hour... But search function is gone again. And I use it a lot at work. I had fixed it with a "recipy" found on here, but yeah only worked till the next time I opened my laptop... No restart or anything prior to that... (Restarted during the recipy ofc. But not again after it worked) I see now the next update for Big Sur is on tonight! Im scared of getting even more trouble! The update does not say it will fix any bugs in mail app.... What to do?? Same problem as Sharfin83 and swmartinez it seems. One more thing... Quicklook also have issues... works some places in finder and mail etc, but not other places in finder. Ive had issues for a week now with stuff and not been able to work (work from home in a small online..company)

Same for me (still in January) : can't research mails using the "research function" and other issues with the sound... I regret to have Big Sur, since I do need to easily find my mails. I tried all the techniques to fix the bug, but it does not work on the long term.
I have a mess now post big sur upgrade. Seacrh comes up with ghost emails that show the incorrect detail in teh previiew pane

The titles, email sender and preview content are mismatched. I know the email and all three shown are from different actual maisl.

I have tried all of the fixes advised. Reboot, rebuild, etc. Multiple times.

If i can not rely on my emails being stored correctly I will eventually have to look for a different sw and service provider for mail!

Please Please fix it.
My app stopped working just like that yesterday and not responding each time I try to launch it. I'm really close to OS reinstallation. That's really annoying.
I have recently started using the new MacBook Air M1 and the Mail application has an error and shows the following:

Online (Connections to the server “imap.gmail.com” on the default ports timed out.)

I tried to restart the machine couple of times and quit the Mail application and reopenned many times and still the Mail is not working.

Any help, much appreciated.

Thank you.

Errors as outlined above still with me RE Search (.pages does not work, does for .pdf and .numbers, emails links do not work about every second day but does otherwise, pull down menu for 'links' in .pages document does not (open)work.....any advice please, Big Sur is very problematic.......Sean Cawley, Ireland
