I have encountered similar problem, finder will become loading and NOT response every-time select a file , if open a file by Xcode menu and select a file , Finder got not response too and make the Xcode got not response.
For me, the problem was in the OneDrive Extension for Finder, I disabled that and delete the OneDrive app and now it's working.
