macOS Big Sur installation timed out (An error occurred installing macOS. The request timed out.)

I'm trying to update to the macOS Big Sur beta (day 1!) but the installation keeps failing with a timeout.

I get a popup that says:
An error occurred installing macOS.
The request timed out.

If I go into /var/log/install.log, there's some detail here, showing that bridgeOS timed out.

What's the fix for this?

Here are the last lines of the install.log file:

Any ideas?

I'm not sure if this will help you out, but I was getting the same problem, checked the log and it was as you reported. I rebooted and it took a little bit of time, but it went okay to install for me finally.
Yeah, reboot helps with this problem. I had the same issue.
I am getting the same problem,

Stopped operation queue with Error Domain=com.apple.OSInstallerSetup.error Code=502

I have done: SMC Clear at restart.
NVRAM reset
Safe Mode.

Nothing helped him to resolve this issue. I have been trying from macOS Big Sur 02 beta to macOS Big Sur 11 beta. No luck in installation.

I'm getting this error "The request timed out" and "bridgeOS update prepare timed out" on macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 (not beta). I tried rebooting and also rebooting into safe mode (by holding down shift) and neither helped.
In some other logs I found entries like
Code Block
MacBook-Pro osinstallersetupd[1710]: objc[1710]: Class BOSQueryCurrentStateOperation is implemented in both /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BridgeOSInstall.framework/Versions/A/BridgeOSInstall (0x7fff8e697c80) and /Applications/Install macOS Big Sur.app/Contents/Frameworks/OSInstallerSetup.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/IAESD.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/IABridgeOSInstall.framework/Versions/A/IABridgeOSInstall (0x107162780). One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined.

I removed the copy from /Applications and that allowed the install to proceed. Eventually the installer got stuck during installation and I had to hard reboot it once and eventually Big Sur update succeeded.
Restart not solved my problem.

Update firmware using DFU solved it:
