Not entirely sure how to go about stating this or who to go through to have this considered but I have a logical solution to a problem I ran into on a regular basis and many more will continue to run into it as HomeKit and CarPlay become parts of more and more peoples lives.
The Problem: When I'm in my car and ask Siri to lock or unlock the door the command does not work and she asks you to unlock your device. This defeats the purpose of CarPlay and HomeKit and creates a safety hazard removing my phone from the center console. The same problem exits when using the "Hey Siri" feature on my phone. If I'm in bed and want to lock my door and my phone isn't near me then it too defeats the purpose of HomeKit and "Hey Siri". I also have scenes like "Goodnight" that have my door lock involved in the scene that also won't work.
The Reason This Problem Exists: I understand why this is the way it is though. It's a security risk when someone could unlock your home using Siri and HomeKit without your password or fingerprint and I am glad that is the case. BUT....
The Solution: A very simple solution that would make Siri, HomeKit and CarPlay function as they should when it comes to locking ones door is to have Siri ask you for your numeric passcode in order to complete the request. Something along the lines of, "Jordan, please provide your code for that task.", "123456", "Thank you, your door is unlocked." I understand that giving a verbal passcode is also a security risk but the majority of times you would be having this problem is when you are alone or with someone you are okay hearing your passcode. If you are in a situation where you would rather not give your verbal code then have a buffer of time that would allow you to just rest your finger on TouchID and Siri follow through with the command so you could do so through feel.
Please tell me I'm not the only one having this issue on a daily basis?!
Thanks,
Jordan
