Going forward, Artsy decided to use React Native.

It makes sense if the apps are API-driven and more importantly if the team consists of people with the right skills and mindset (expertise in iOS, an awareness of what the web technology could offer, and having a good foundation on web dev tools).
Otherwise, I can also see a steep learning curve (which can be overcomed, but it can be difficult) for a developer or the whole iOS-only team coming from native apps development without any or very minimal web development experience. From my exposure on the culture and habits of web developers and those who are just starting their apps development career with native apps, each could have a different mindset in approaching the problems of app development.
A "better" pattern won't necessarily mean easier adoption, or better developer productivity, but it can be if given enough effort and investment.
