I found on a Monterey 12.7.6 Intel MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015), that corespotlightd was using over 100% CPU (multi-cores) while Time Machine backup was running. Added corespotlightd to killall list of processes to kill. For the 1st command, mdutil was showing that indeed the "Time Machine Backup" volumes were being indexed, along with VMWare's vctl container image storage location. I disabled indexing for vctl images afterwards: mdutil -d -i off ~/.vctl/storage
