I'm happy to say that this DID in fact work for me. When I erased MS Outlook.app and emptied the trash, I was afraid it would involve reloading all the account info and re-downloading all the exchange emails but it did not. Just ran the Office 365 installer and all was back as before. Now, about 1 hour after stimulating Spotlight to re-index my email, I'm already getting some search results showing up in Outlook. Used to be that I could search on something as simple as the 'A' and get no results -- now I get hundreds of results and growing.

This worked for me for about 24 hours with an ever increasing number of hits as the search engine built up its repertoire. Then, after about 24 hours, back to no search results at all. Back to square one.
