Early developer beta releases of Catalina broke camera tethering, so it wouldn't surprise me if it happened again with Big Sur. I just wish that Apple would quit breaking tethering with every new beta release of MacOS, and that they would quickly fix it in Big Sur!

Today's latest developer beta resolved the issue. I can now successfully tether cameras to my MBP.
