In the more recent iOS version (13+ I believe) - the Shortcuts app has ability to add an Automation -> Create Personal Automation, then choose the "NFC" setting in the Setting group. You will need to scan an NFC tag, name it and then you're able to create any further actions. Once setup, whenever you place phone near that same tag - the automation will occur. You can program the automation to run with or without asking for the user's permission.

I think the iPad Pro has the processor chops, but I'm struggling to see a business model/scenario where a Mac isn't required to create/finalize/publish to the App Store. Seems like that would take a big bite out of demand for MacBook Pros?
Perhaps an enhanced Playgrounds app or separate Xcode light app for iPad? - that has many more (but not all) of the Xcode capabilities than current playgrounds app? And works seamless with full Xcode MBP?
There are several sample code examples at https://developer.apple.com/wwdc20/sample-code/ for various video sessions, but I do not see the Book Club sample code (as of now) there. Hopefully all the WWDC20 sample code will be there soon.
