If I rework my code to:

self.interfaceController = interfaceController
let mapTemplate = CPMapTemplate()
mapTemplate.mapDelegate = self
interfaceController.setRootTemplate(mapTemplate, animated: true)
self.mapTemplate = mapTemplate
}
I still am getting a blank screen. Not sure what I am missing.
