And furthermore, I haven't gotten anything with the native Map object instead of the MkMapView to work for any better for me.

I wouldn't be surprised if they handcuff you and make you purchase a personal Apple Developer Program... I'm also running into this problem and I'm trying to see if purchasing the program fixes it for me.
