There is a whole sector of research that uses expensive and clunky eye trackers, all of this would be put out of business if Apple would open up the Eye-Tracking API.
Yes, this must be controlled by the user for its obvious privacy implications.
If Apple wouldn't like to open it, at the very least they should build an Eyetracker App themselves.
Recording (connected to the external camera), and heat maps alone would be incredible useful for data driven UI research.
