There are not any HomeKit accessories currently on the market that use software authentication, correct?
This Verge article seems to have misinformation. The examples given were shipped with the MFi chip for hardware authentication, but just did not enable HomeKit support until a later time via a firmware update.
Same with the Logitech Circle 2 camera:
The camera’s firmware must be updated to version 5.2.86 or later for Apple HomeKit functionality to be enabled.
