You can provide an app with a certain number of consumable credits when it is first launched. You will want to use either the keychain or the user's iCloud key-value file or both to record the first use of the app. You need to protect against the user deleting and reinstalling the app and the user logging into multiple iTunes Accounts to refresh the free credits.
