I'm hoping someone could help me out here as I've reached the limit of my wits!
I'm trying to setup the messages.app on my Mac OS server to host a messaging server for a number of macs on my LAN.
I'm fed up of using the Bonjour service for messaging as it doesn't support group chat 😟
When I try to setup the Server side of things, all seems well, I flick the switch to turn the message service on and my server host name has a green light next to it saying 'reachable at xsever.local within the network...etc.'.
The client side of things seems more tricky tho; when I come to setup a Jabber account, the messages app gets stuck in a loop of 'username or password for account xxxx@xserver.local is incorrect'.
This happens for any user account and I've tried all sorts of tricks with group access, DNS settings, different ports, SSL on or off and so on...but no joy.
Has anyone else seen this before?
