xcode 9 doesn't recognize watch paired with iphone

Previous versions of the Xcode 9 beta were able to recognize the watch (watchOS 3.2.3) paired to my iPhone (ios 10.3.1), but since I downloaded the release version now it can't see the watch. I tried upgrading the phone to ios 11, and then the watch to 4.0, but still nothing. The macos version is 10.12.6 (16G29).
