same serial number on multiple ipads. Is it an issue from appleside.

Hi Team,

Same serial number is showing for two ipads of my customer. Is it an issue from apple side.

Both devices have diffrent UDID, model number, osversion. Only serial nubmer is same.

Due to security reasons i cannot provide serialnumber and udid here.

Thanks and Regards,

Kamal

  • I purchased 2 iPad mini 4 from Amazon with wifi and cellular services. All worked fine without issue until I tried to set up facetime and messaging. Whenever I log in with my apple ID it says Server not available try again or the error cant signs in try again. When reaching out to apple support I notice both iPads have the same serial and model numbers.

This number is unique to a device.

How did you get the serial numbers ?

I found information to understand the device serial number at:

h ttps://imei24.com

I am getting this in mdm device scan response. Two of the devices are giving same serial number. Both are Ipads. One with 'OSVersion': '10.2' and other with 'OSVersion': '10.3.3'.

Thanks and Regards,

Kamal

That's very strange, as serial numbers should be unique.

As OS versions are reported different, that seems to prove they are effectively different devices ; otherwise, could it be that the same iPad is seen from 2 network connections ?

Or may be the application that uses MDM is reporting erroneously ???

It's strange, With the help of customer we figured out things as follows.

The other device is not owned by the customer and the duplicate device is located somewhere in China

Both devices are enrolled via DEP.
