Where can I find documentation to determine if Photos supports EXIF and IPTC metadata standards? In particular, can Photos read all standard fields in search and does data added via the info palette map to fields that export with the images.
Very limited support for IPTC in Photos as of 10.12.6. This is more metadata displayed than previously, but not enough to facilitate rights management or proper attribution.
You can download the test IPTC jpeg that contains valid entries for all IPTC fields, ingest into Photos and see what is displayed. This test jpeg image link is from the Embedded Metadata Initiative, a working group of the IPTC.
Please report back if the metadata is preserved on export from any applications you are building. It would also be interesting to know what is displayed in HEIC if anyone is working in iOS 11.
