Navigation Controller and Tab Bar Controler

I'm basically brand new to using the interface builder. I followed Apple's guidelines to embed tab bar controller into a couple view controllers with the navigation controller. It was done successfully. But it turns out I'm having issues with my navigation bar when transitioning segue. It will show dark color when the transition is happening even using hide bottom bar in the interface builder which actually seems to cause the issue. I've tried everything not sure what else to try. It seems there's color coming through from the previous view when pushed. If I remove the animation it's fine. Am I missing something rather simple?
