com.apple.DiskManagement error 0

Can't seem to find anything online for this error. I've initiated an install of High Sierra Beta 1 and I get this:

"macOS could not be installed on your computer

The operation couldn't be completed (com.apple.DiskManagement error 0.)

Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again."

I have done the follow and all lead back to the same error:

  • Restarted
  • Reset PRAM & SMC
  • Created a bootable USB Beta Install Drive and held "OPTION" on boot to select it as installer
  • Opened Disk Utility and checked HDD with First Aid, zero problems and was given green tick
  • Made sure no peripherals are connected besides keyboard (mouse is Bluetooth)
  • Tried booting with BIOS visible but it refuses to display

This error occurs within 5 minutes of starting the install.

I'm upgrading from macOS Sierra. Valid developer account.

Computer: iMac, 32GB RAM, Late 2012 model (I think).

Same thing happening to me. Nothing worked either, so far. 😟

EDIT 2: Never mind, back to DiskManagement error 0.

EDIT:

Actually, after running the disk utility (and also getting the green check on the disk), I restarted attempting to install again, this time producing a new error:

The path /System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg appears to be missing or damaged.

Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.

But, this keeps happening on and on.

Yes, this also happened to me. It first happened when I did a PRAMS reset, that's what triggered me to attempt on a USB stick which ended in the same initial error..!

Any way to return back to Sierra? Or to get to my files? 😮

Not that I have found. It won't let me boot into a Siera USB for some reason.

I think my only option is to pop it into an old MacPro tower, take all the needed files off, format, install. 😟

This is also happening to me with the public beta. I keep getting the same full screen error message: "com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 0". It tells me to restart; but neither the keyboard nor the mouse work. All I can do is a hard reboot on the computer. I've tried that five times with the same result. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Same thing here for me too.

Did you ever get it to work for you? Or, what did you end up doing?

I recevied the same error when installing. It would begin to install then a few mins in it would give me that same error and ask to restart and retry. Couldn't figure it out and feared I may have to do a full wipe, but then noticed the box check for "convert to APFS" before beginning installation. I left this unchecked to see if the installer was just having issue with converting to the new format or if it was a corrupt installer. Sure enough the installation went off without a hitch this time. So my issue was converting to APFS. High Sierra 10.13 installed, but I'm still in the older format. You could try this to see if it is in fact the same issue I am running into with converting. You are able to boot into Recovery Mode after installation of 10.13 to use Disk Utility to convert your HD into APFS. When I try to do this though I get a DiskManagement Error-69853. But perhaps you'll have better luck.

> … Tried booting with BIOS visible but it refuses to display …

Do you mean, Startup Manager would not appear? Or that Startup Manager did not present an expected volume?

This is happening to me now. Did anyone figure out how to undo this?

I have had the same experience trying to convert to APFS - same install issue from the beginning, unchecked the box, installed fine, error 69853 trying to convert in recovery mode. On PB3.

Have you had any luck?

If I had the Convert to APFS option, I did not see it. My MBPro 15 (2008) went through the initial installation, then rebooted and hung up at about the "37 minutes left" mark, then after an hour or so provied the restart option and the error message noted in this thread. Restarting just prepeats the loop; I don't get any options at that point. Curious where you saw that Convert to APFS option -- did you reinstall Sierra then run the installer from scratch again?

Fingers crossed the restore from TM backup will work.

I figured out how to solve this issue last night.

You need to find the EFI update and install it under Sierra first.

Here's what I did:

1) Download the most recent version of this file:

https://swscan.apple.com/content/catalogs/others/index-10.12beta-10.12-10.11-10.10-10.9-mountainlion-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog.gz

2) Search the file for the EFI update for your machine. In my case it was MacMini. You can search the file like this:

$ zgrep EFI index-10.13beta-10.13-10.12-10.11-10.10-10.9-mountainlion-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog.gz | grep pkg

3) Download and install the appropriate EFI update manually under 10.12.x

4) Check that your EFI is updated.. Apple -> About This Mac -> System Report -> Boot ROM Version

Mine is now MM61.010B.B00 where it was MM61.88Z.0106.B1F previously.

This solved my problem. If you wish to back out of high sierra install, I was also able to use internet recovery to restore to Sierra without having to use TM to restore.

Can you please explain how you were able to restore to Sierra without TM? I Keep getting this same error and am hoping to not have to restore from TM...

Anyone came up with any solution? I need to get back to work and my computer is totally screwed by this. What a mess.

What have you people tried so far? let's see if we can find a solution.

Hi All, what a nightmare, so ....Mea Culpa !!! I didn't do a backup before installing high sierra and poof, I got the loop of **** and the com.apple.diskmanagement error 0.

My solution was a bit different after trying everything ( Except the EfI Update which I do not know how to do it) for the reord my EFI is Boot ROM Version: MBP81.004D.B00, in case somebody will tell me the process of changing it.

What I did: I downgraded to Sierra, I have saved the installation file of Sierra just in case long ago, then I created a external HD installer and after an hour or so, my computer came alive and thanks to the gods of code and hardware, all my files are there !!!!!

Now the question reminds would I will able to update to high Sierra??? not sure, if anyone has an idea please send an answer, if not I will simply backup, clean up my HD and reinstall from 0 ( is a pain) so I try to avoid that.

Any solutions??? hope this helps.
