When using Xcode to upload and run a custom .app executable it stay a long time (2+ min) on "GeneratingApplicationMap". The iPad is empty except for the uploaded .app, the size of the app is 4Gig. Any idea what is happening? Anyway to bypass it? Thanks.

It is rather old, but it appears the issue is caused by having a large number of apps installed on the device you are testing on.
If possible, it might be worth trying to use a device, to the extent possible, only for testing and not normal use.
And then I get the "The iPad is empty except for the uploaded .app" statement.
Sometimes I'm a bit slow.
I think I would try rebooting the iPad to see if that makes a difference.
