How come app Lebara Talk can accept credit cards?

Hi,

How is it that the app Lebara Talk can accept credit cards online, and also thay you can purchase vouchers online and redeem them in the app?

They also mention this in the app description which is against the terms of Apple.

This should be, as I understand it, against the terms of Apple. Is it not?

If you read 3.1.4 and 3.1.5 of App Store Review Guidelines, you will find that VOIP service is most likely categorized as a physical good & service and/or the credits can be consumed outside the app, therefore you can implement your own unlocking mechanism and purchase gateways.

Thank you for the reply.

I do not think this is the case since almost all other VoIP apps use IAPs and the Rebtel app even states on their website that Apple forced them to remove credit payments because they want them to use IAP.

That was 2012. Rebtel has both in-app and credit card options in their app today. Not sure if Apple's policy has changed, but we're facing this same issue with them in 2019.

see specific mention of VOIP in:

3.1.3(a) “Reader” Apps: Apps may allow a user to access previously purchased content or content subscriptions (specifically: magazines, newspapers, books, audio, music, video, access to professional databases, VoIP, cloud storage, and approved services such as classroom management apps), provided that you agree not to directly or indirectly target iOS users to use a purchasing method other than in-app purchase, and your general communications about other purchasing methods are not designed to discourage use of in-app purchase.
