Sierra DP5 and PB4 links

Some have trouble getting the update with mac app store so you can get the Sierra DP5 or PB4 via browser instead with these links:

Don’t just run the installers individually. They will stop you doing that with an error message.

For DP5, put them into /Library/Updates/031-71810 and restart. Then go to updates tab in mac app store and click update.

Thanks so much for posting these. Sadly, for whatever reason, this technique just won't work for my MacPro (cylinder).

Tried repeated reboots, removing the .plist files in /Library/Updates, various file ownership/mode changes, nothing catches it.

Reported it via the BugReporter and yesterday it was closed as a "duplicate" - sigh!

I should point out that we should allow the mac app store to start the update first so as to allow it to make the folder first. Don't create the folder yourself.

Then put the packages in there. Restart and then go to the updates tab in the mac app store and click update.

Other people who made the folder themselves could not get it to work.

The reason we should allow the mac app store to create the folder and not create it ourselves is that it will put other stuff in there as well as other locations on the mac which facilitates the update and without this other stuff the update will not work - even if all the packages are in the folder. Some of this other stuff can't even be downloaded.

The method I described merely helps the mac app store along and lets it update much more quickly - as well as making it easier to update multiple machines without having to redownload the packages for each computer.

What my update method definitely does NOT do is replace the mac app store altogether. That used to be possible for older versions. But it is no longer possible for Sierra - at least not easily because the packages cannot be installed individually within Sierra.

There is another way to do it which is harder and that is to run the packages individually through an El Capitan partition and carefully selecting the Sierra partition to install onto. That is not an ideal way to update however.

Great tip, thanks for that.

In my case, no amount of running software update, either on the CLI or via the Mac App Store, sees any updates for Sierra. I have re-installed DP1 and absolutely nothing gets it to see any updates. Every attempt results in something like:

Aug 10 10:04:06 x softwareupdated[558]: SUScan: Scan for client pid 558 (/System/Library/CoreServices/Software Update.app/Contents/Resources/softwareupdated)

Aug 10 10:04:06 x softwareupdated[558]: SoftwareUpdate: Catalog Not Modified since last scan ("572cd-539aa4c7c6e80")

Aug 10 10:04:06 x softwareupdated[558]: SUScan: Using catalog https:/

Aug 10 10:06:52 x softwareupdated[558]: JS: No bundle at/Applications/SafeView.app

Aug 10 10:09:27 x softwareupdated[558]: JS: 10.12

Aug 10 10:19:06 x softwareupdated[558]: SUScan: timed-out waiting for product load operations to finish

Aug 10 10:19:06 x softwareupdated[558]: Scan got error Can't load data from the Apple Software Update server.

What's odd is that on my home iMac, it works fine, every time. There's something about this MacPro, or the network it's on, or some interaction, which is causing the issue. Ah well, may just end up waiting for the final release on this system.

Question: Signing up to test new OS is beyond my expertise. I now have installed OS Sierra Version 10.12 Beta (16A240m). Can I just let it this way and when the final/completed version is released download and go on my merry way?

Thanks for these. They helped me out big time! iTunes 12.5 downloads are still bugging out for me. Do you have the links for the 5th preview of iTunes like you did for the other betas? Cheers.

Nice one! Worked perfectly 😎

Just out of interest how do you find these links? Would be great to use in the future.

WHERE IS? For PB4, put them into /Library/Updates/031-71809 and restart. Then go to updates tab in mac app store and click update.

I can not locate to place into library

Also stuck on pb3, for the first time. Injecting files didn't really work for me as you suggested. Did notice this In my console:
error 17:15:19.924499 -0400 softwareupdated Detected potentially harmful notification post rate of 112.524 notifications per second error 17:15:32.599996 -0400 softwareupdated Detected potentially harmful notification post rate of 107.953 notifications per second
Weird. Not sure what softwareupdate services is implying since my meager attempts at triggering updates could not possibly have generated this rate. Someone suggested apple or their cdn may be blacklisting ips. ?! What do you think.

There are 2 ways to install the packages for PB4.

If the update IS showing in updates tab in mac app store:

If you start the update via mac app store first it will create folder /Library/Updates/031-71809. Then move the packages there, restart, go to updates tab in mac app store and click update.

If the update IS NOT showing in updates tab in mac app store:

Run the packages individually from an El Capitan partition, carefully selecting the Sierra partition on which to install.
