Displayed Frames only available for Metal?

From Apple: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/InstrumentsUserGuide/DisplayedSurfacesInstrument.html

"This instrument is not intended to be used individually outside of the Metal System Trace template."

Just want to confirm this tool is only available when using Metal - and won't work for OpenGLES.

I'm trying to find out if the system is running in double-buffer mode, or falling back to triple-buffer mode.

On it's own, that instrument can only show you when the displayed surface is being changed, it cannot figure out if it's double or triple buffered.

I think I'll need a few others too (Grafics Driver Activity, GPU Driver) - but specifically - I can't get this instrument to work.
