WWDC scholarship app - developer-facing technologies

When the WWDC scholarship guidelines list examples of Apple technologies to use in the app submitted, they're all user-facing ones. Do developer-facing technologies like Swift, Core Graphics (and its UIKit wrappers), IBInspectables, etc. count too? Thanks!

If you're using features behind the scenes, make sure to talk about it in your essay!

Because these features are ones that can't be seen by the user, and the source code is not submitted to show it, is there any place else besides the essay where I need to "prove" that I'm using these technologies?

I think the essay is the perfect place to talk about that. I suggest talking a bit about how you did it rather than just a bullet-point list of what technologies you used. It should be clear to the judges if you're being genuine.
