Nelly Jun 10, 2015 1:42 PM (in response to Stormvet)Not sure if it is related but, VM machines (Parallels & VMware both) are no longer able to connect to some (perhaps all) USB devices after testing El Capitan.

Re: USB not recognizing after install
kblakedunham Jul 11, 2015 3:55 AM (in response to Nelly)Morning everyone - first post but wanted to throw it out here.
USB dongle support is working on 10.11 (15A215h) - in VMware Fusion (Macbook Pro Air Mid-2012, 8GB Ram, 500GB SSD). The dongle is recognized by the host OS, but not able to be accessed by applications. However, the dongle is able to be accessed and communicated with inside VMware Fusion 7.1.2 (2779224). I recently upgraded to El Capitan and had issues with my Fitbit Base Station. It works flawlessly inside Windows 10 Tech Preview via Fusion.
Perhaps they are on their way to fixing it - albeit possibly a backwards approach. My VMs are considerably more sluggish after the upgrade to 10.11.
Hope this helps...

Thalesian Jun 16, 2015 5:45 PM (in response to ChandraNM)Looks like that is the culprit. Going to have to ponder how to handle this one.

Might want to ponder that things will change as the betas move towards a full release version, but in the mean time, be sure to file bugs against the pre-release.

BrianForbesColgate Oct 6, 2015 8:55 PM (in response to ChandraNM)My situation was an unrecognized photo SD card on a mid-2011 iMac 27. Unrecognized and could not be found using disc utility,
The computer had been sleeping before I woke it up and inserted the SD card.
A Restart solved the problem.

Re: USB not recognizing after install
prmobiledev Jun 21, 2015 12:43 AM (in response to Stormvet)Having the same issue. I have a 2009 MBP 17 inch. I have a wireless mouse dongle, usb backup drive and iphone data cable connected (3 USB Ports)
When I'm booting, the iPhone shows the charging symbol beside the battery icon after hearing the boot sound, after that the charging symbol disappears. It happens only with that USB port. So it's not damaged. I'm thinking that El Capitan's developers were thinking that it will run minimally on a newer Macbook Pro with 2 USB ports.

Re: USB not recognizing after install
scottmn Jul 28, 2015 9:35 PM (in response to Stormvet)I have run into a similar problem with Canon MX860 after El Capitan install. I am no longer able to use the scanner.
When I attempt to reconfigure, the Canon IJ Network tool does not see the printer connected via USB, although I am able to print to the MX860

Re: USB not recognizing after install
scottmn Jul 29, 2015 7:45 AM (in response to scottmn)Update: FIXED.
Others may not be so lucky with this but I was able to find a fix.
Luckily I have a dual boot on my Mac, so I rebooted into my old OSX 10.9. Using the old config I was able to access the MX860 configuration and updating settings. I then tried a PRAM reset (power down, press power on and immediately hold Option, Command (⌘), P, and R – don't let go of the keys until you hear the boot chime twice).
When I booted back into El Capitan all is now working fine with the MX860 (printer and scanner).
Note it is possible that the PRAM reset alone solved the problem, it may not have been necessary to boot back into the old OS but since it is now working I have no way to confirm that.
Hope this helps someone!

Re: USB not recognizing after install
petecrosta Oct 10, 2015 10:00 PM (in response to scottmn)I zapped my PRAM after reading your post, Scott, and it made no difference. I see two immediate issues that I never had pre-Capitan:
my iPhone stops getting charged when the system sleeps. I'm used to syncing my iPhone every night, and charging it. I'm disappointed to see it start at 100% charge and see 70% by morning (no apps running).
my FitBit dongle needs to be removed and reinserted to make connectivity each time after the iMac sleeps w/El Capitan, not on prior O/Ss.
