Remote debugging over native thunderbolt

Currently remote kernel debugging can be done using either ethernet/ firewire adapters to thunderbolt. Would it be possible for remote kernel debugging over native thunderbolt (ie - 2 machines connected back to back with a thunderbolt cable)?

That might require Thunderbolt Bridge functionality in the EFI firmware of the target machine (not just in its kernel). I haven't figured out a good strategy to search for it. Seems like it would be worth a try though; given that you can do e.g. target disk mode that way I think, it shouldn't hurt anything to try, except the time you waste. Not to mention cheaper and simpler, and those darn Thunderbolt Ethernet adaptors run hot, too.
