It gets as far as downloading, then right before it reaches the "Installing" stage I see a warning about it failing a verification step. This has happened every time I try to download the update from the App Store on both secure and public wifi, and since it's the release version, there's no other way to get it! Does anyone know a way around this issue?

Hi Bob!
Try downloading from here:
https://developer.apple.com/downloads/
The direct link from there is:
http://developer.apple.com/devcenter/download.action?path=/Developer_Tools/Xcode_7.1/Xcode_7.1.dmg
If that doesn't work either, it's possible you have a cert in need of renewing.

If that verification is from the backend, there's little to do but wait and point on it later. I think the signing servers are acting up...
Thanks, Max, for the reminder about the Downloads website. I had forgotten about it 🙂
