How does tvOS handle HD Ready and Full HD resolutions?

I am building a tvOS application, however I and my friends still have a HD ready television, the resolution is 1280x720 instead of the full HD resolution of 1920x1080. So how does the tvOS handle that? Will it downscale 1080 to 720? Or must your app handle both?

Your app only needs to handle the 1080 raster size, and tvOS will handle the conversion.
