erroneous error: PowerPC applications are no longer supported

On the el Cap betas, I've occasionally encountered an error message when opening a newly installed app (usually copied from a DMG). It's a dialog that says the application can't be opened "because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". There is a white do not enter line thru the app, as if it were a PowerPC app. But it is is not, it is an intel:64 app. I've seen this happen a couple times. Any idea why?

That's unusual - If it were only one then I'd assume a corrupted download - since it's more than one app though, I'm guessing that Launch Services isn't seeing the Intel binary for some reason.

Have you tried running the binary directly? I.e. right-clicking the app and selecting "Show Package Contents" > Contents > MacOS > and then running the binary directly. This will run it through Terminal instead.
