If the user activates QL on a standard Finder item, then a window appears with text drawn in black on a white background. If the user then chooses to FullScreen the QL window, the situation is reversed, and the background is black with the text drawn in white.
It is prima facie self-evident that Apple's QL's can detect the color of the background of the window in which they appear.
