Notarized/stapled app (unreal) will not open for others

Some.app created in xcode, sent to me for testing. Gatekeeper would not open it. As an admin I allowed it - worked great. Our clients will not be able to run this so I started investigating signing mac apps (10 years experience signing iOS apps).


After some time...


I have notarized and stapled my app (all through cli) and all of the emails from apple and cli commands show success. I can open the app myself on my machine now (I could not previously without approving).


I zipped it and sent it to someone to open and Gatekeeper said no to with the dev id reason.


There a deep learning curve for signing an unreal mac app, unsure of that is still the problem even though I eventually got approved from apple and it opens now etc.


Any ideas for understanding why everything seems ok but clearly is not?

I would take a look at the troubleshooting documentation from Apple. It will walk you through the process to verify the signing and the notarization steps.
