How are removed subscription periods communicated to users?

In an app with IAP consisting of a subscription group made up of several auto-renewing subscriptions of differing lengths, how are changes (subscriptions being removed) communicated to users?


Quick example: A subscription group consists of monthly and yearly subscriptions. If the yearly option was removed from sale via app store connect, how and when would that be communicated to users who had purchased that subscription?


  • Would the user be informed at the end of their subscription period, or when the subscription period is removed from sale.
  • Is the user informed via emails or notifications (or both)
  • Is the user automatically transferred to another subscription level (in the example, I presume they've move to monthly)
