Extending height of navigation bar?

Is it possible to extend the height of a navigation bar?

I am trying to achieve a similar look like the detailed view of a specific contact from the contacts list.

I have read the following documentation but I am not able to produce the extended navigation bar and the downloadable Xcode project does not contain the extended navigation bar.
