original_transaction_id in auto-renewable-subs - what is it?

Trying to figure out exactly what the original_transaction_id field is. I read some of the other comments here.


After doing some research it seems this id field is unique to a subscription within a subscription group across devices.


So if I renew on one device and go to another device and do a RESTORE - this field seems to be the same.


If I renew another subscription within the same group - this id field is the same.


If I renew another subscription outside the original group - then this field is different.


Does this sound right?


I'm really looking for a field that's unique to a user - that is an apple-id. Any help?

I don't recall whether the originalTransactionIdentifier is different for each device. It may be.


If you want something unique 'to a user' you can have the user write something to their key-value file on iCloud. That key-value file is shared by all devices owned by the 'user' where 'user' is defined by the Apple ID used to log into iCloud.
