15" MBP 2018 stuck upgrading to Beta 5

Hi guys. I have been a Beta user for a very long time and this has been the worst experience ever.

Started with Beta 4 taking over 24 hours to complete, I'm now approaching 72 hours.

My MacBook Pro 15" is a souped up 2018 machine and I have tried the following.

  • PRAM reset
  • SMC reset
  • Booting to Internet recovery
  • Booting to recovery
  • Booting via USB drive (with Catalina Beta 5 installer)
  • Removing all security from my MBP via Startup Security Utility.

I can't boot from the USB drive. The result, after all this time is the same. I'm staring at a black screen saying "Estimating time remaining..."

So guys, any ideas?

I've faced same issue as you. Never experience as worse as that. And no solutions at the moment. No reply from Apple too....Dun know why it breaks Recovery Mode too....very bad experience.

Well that's not great 🙂

I just want to wipe the **** machine. Apple even has step by step instructions on how to achieve that.

But still it doesn't work.

So to be clear. I'm looking for advice on the Apple Developer Forum as to why I can't boot my 2018 Macbook Pro and clean install a new system.

I know it probably due to the T2 chip but I would love some help guys.

Anyone?

I am in the same boat. Not sure what other tricks I can try. 😟

Mine is currently doing the same. It’s been 4 hours now and is stuck about 25% done. Really frustrating Has yours finally finished?
