Instruments minimum requirements for good performance

Hi,

I'm having a lot of trouble to run Instruments on a MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2017, 2,3 GHz Intel Core i5.

I tried to profile a fairly simple app and the whole mac gets very slow, not to mention Instruments itself, which becomes unusable.

Not only that but even when not recording, only checking the recorded data, Instruments still gives me the BBOD from presenting all that data.

It is somewhat normal for Instrumens to be so heavy or my OS could be cluttered and slow? I don't think so, since I have tried on other 13' macs on the past and it was still slow.

My point: Which of these macs would show significant improvement on Instruments usability considering "bang for the buck":

15' Macbook Pro i7

Mac Mini 2018 6-core i5

Mac Mini 2018 6-core i7

Thanks 🙂

Thin edge both, but that ram is your biggest bottleneck right now, not your processor, I think. Soldered on ram. or can you add more?

Regardless of which mac, -always- max the ram. As for performance otherwise, Apple engrs. tell us that Xcode prefers a fast SSD, so you might want to replace it as well, being sure to get something larger so you can enjoy more free space for the system to do it's thing.

Did you check CPU & Memory loads via Activity Monitor in those examples?

As for buck-bang... How much physical ram does your MBP have? How much free space on it's SSD? How old and what size is it?
