Firefox Software Update can't be opened

Trying to start Firefox on 10.15 Beta 2 and receive an error message that the Firefox Software Update.app can't be launched because it's not from a verified developer. I can go to system settings -> security and allow the Firefox Software Update.app anyway but it still does not get launched. Nothing happens.

I read somwhere else in this forum that you can run the following

sudo spctl --master-disable

then open firefox let the update complete

Once completed and you cofirm you can start and stop firefox

sudo spctl --master-enable

This worked for me on Catalina Beta2

I have the same issue. I even downloaded the latest version of Firefox, but when it starts it checks to see if an update is available .. and fails.

Thank you....This worked on Catalina Beta 2 for me as well.

I had the same issue until yesterday. Firefox came out with a new update version 67.0.4 which now opens for me. I had to Trash Firefox from the Applications Folder then download and install the new version 67.0.4 from Mozilla. You will have to select the "Open Anyway" button in the Security & Privacy/ General pane of System Preferences.

Thanks a lot, that did the trick!

Thanks but "Open anyway" did not work, however the above spctl commands did.
