High Sierra 10.13 no sound slow browsing

  1. Installed the latest version of High Sierra 10.131 (17A362a) onto a 2017 iMac that was running the latest version of Sierra. After install there was no sound and the Sound prefernece pain presents a message saying the pane can not be opened.
  2. Web browsing from both Safari and Chrome is very slow for certain pages inclucing the developer.apple.com forums.
  3. Terminal locks up after typing a few characters then starts working after about 30 seconds. This keeps happening.

Resetting PRAM and reinstalling the OS from cmd+R boot has not solved the problem.

Console pointed me to:

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/InstantOn.driver/Contents/MacOS/InstantOn

PlugIn Identifier: com.rogueamoeba.InstantOn.driver

PlugIn Version: 8.4.3 (8.4.3)

This was keeping CoreAudio from launching, thus no Sound preference pane, slow performance in browsing and strange non-responsiveness in Terminal. Once I removed the InstantOn driver from rogueamoeba (part of Airfoil). Everything works fine now.

Of course, I found this after Dimitry posted the right answer. Next time I'll check my posts before chasing the *****.

I do not have those files to remove and this is getting very frustrating, i was told to update my OS so that my internal camera would work now both the camera and the sound aren't working.

please advise

Has anyone found a fix for the slow web browsing? Currently having this issue with High Sierra 10.13.2
