Simulator window scale greyed out in Xcode 9, what to do?

When I try to run the Xcode simulator my only size options are "actual size and 50%" the 100% and 200% are greyed out and can't be used. I have tried many things to no success with them all.

I've tried:

* Disable "Show Device Bezels"

* Zoom

* In Library/Preferences deleting: com.apple.iphonesimulator.plist (not in my list)

* uninstalling xcode 9, restarting Mac and then reinstalling and still same issue.

I'm all out of options and I need to use the 100% window scale to take screenshots of my sticker apps. Apple support doesn't know what to do 😟 Does anyone know of anything else I can possibly do/try? Thanks for your time and help! Since I upgraded to High Sierra my whole Mac has gone to h*ll

It's in your: username/Library/Preferences folder. I think it was hidden for me initially as I couldn't find it either. Can't remember how I unhid though.
