Minimum entry hardware for comfortably running Swift?

Hi everyone.

I would like to get started learning Swift.

I am a window user and virtualization does not cut it (slow).

I am now considering buying any hardware which will smoothly run Xcode/Swift.

I have no problem with eBay - just need to be froogle.

What do you recommend?

MacMini? Macbooc Air? Any idea as to what should I expect to spend on this?

Thanks for your help!

Xcode runs pretty well on all currently shipping hardware. Some random thoughts:

  • Make sure you get an SSD (or Fusion drive).

  • Screen real estate is really important. I do all my work on a laptop and I’ve got used to having a small screen, but there’s no doubt that bigger screens are better.

  • I’m not sure if the Macs in the Apple Store have Xcode installed. If so, you could visit your local store to see what’s it’s like in person.

Have you considered starting with Playgrounds on iPad?

Playgrounds works on any iPad running iOS 10.x - refurbished iPads in the Apple Store are running from $210 to $870
