macOS Sierra external display flickering issue

Running macOS Sierra V10.12 on mid 2014 MacBook pro, when I connect my HP 27xw monitor MacBook screen keeps on flickering and external display says "check cable" I tried connecting other laptop to my external display and it works fine.

The problem started happening after I installed macOS Sierra.

Try using HDMI cabel, if you havent tried this until now. It was soluton for me even before macOS Sierra, because I had flickering problems if I was using display port on my MBPr early 2013.

I'm running 10.12 on a MBP (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) hooked up to a Dell P2715Q via DisplayPort and it shows no flicker at all. It is missing a resolution choice (2560x1440) but apart from that it looks beautiful.

i am using HDMI cable, configured as seperate display

when you mean display port are you referring to thunderbolt port ? I havent used thunderbolt port at all I always use HDMI

where is the displayport ?

I always connect to HDMI port in below link marked as HDMI

  • I'm facing the same issue with my 2014 MBP 13inch what is the solution to this ?

Displayport is equal to Thunderbolt.

i have filed bug report will keep it posted here.

still having the same issue, no update on Bug that I filed!

was able to resolve this, my monitor HP 27xw has 3 input ports and had a setting to AUTO-SWITCH based on INPUT SOURCE. For some strange reason macOS Sierra is not OK with this setting. So I turned off and everything is back to normal.

In the section Onscreen controls

Next Input (Back/Cancel/Exit)

gave me a pointer that there might be setting that controls multiple input source.

Thanks all for the help !!

I am having same issues here (on 10.12.1 beta, there were no issues with 10.12). Changing scale to more resolution than default fixes it as a workaround (but makes display less pleasurable to work with).

I have the same issue after upgrading to Sierra. My thunderbolt monitor has no HDMI port and its firmware is up to date...

My thounderbolt monitor doen't have any HDMI port...

I have a macbook pro 2011 running on Sierra. I just bought the hp 27es monitor yesterday and I have been noticing the same problem. Every now and then the monitor screen flickers. Does anyone know how to fix it? thanks in advance

Thought I'd add to the discussion. Link to my Macos flicker issue and video here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7926898

I really hope Apple figures this out. Until then, I staying on El Capitan.
