        Question:

Is there an update for Apple Remote Desktop Admin for Sierra? If there is, will it be just enough to make it Sierra-compatible or will there be new functionality available?

        Answer:

ARD Admin for Sierra will include bug fixes and Sierra compatibility, but no new features or functionality are planned.

        Question:

Are there plans to offer Profile Manager as a cloud service?

        Answer:

        Question:

We've attempted to follow the Installer lab team suggestion of doing a scripted run of startosinstall to install macOS using an installer package:

        https://forums.developer.apple.com/message/143685

In our testing, we are having problems determining a way to do additional package payloads that will be installed after the new OS is installed.

The script only allows for installing installer packages prior to the reboot install. What is the suggested way to do this?

        Answer:

Use System Image Utility's NetInstall workflow for this. It creates a customized installer and stores inside the generated disk image (NetInstall.dmg). Then take that .dmg, mount it and run startosinstall from there.

You can add additional installer packages to the OS installer using System Image Utility's NetInstall workflow.

        Follow-up Question:

        Is this Apple-supported?

        Answer:

File a bug to request it.

        Question:

Are there plans to allow bless to boot against a default whitelisted address of bsdp://255.255.255.255 to allow machines protected by SIP to be allowed to broadcast as if N were held down at startup to NetBoot?

        Answer:

No plans to allow this. From Apple's perspective, this global whitelisting no longer makes sense from a security perspective. The specific NetBoot servers should be whitelisted.

        Question:

Currently, the MDM command to install an application only works when a user is logged in, and otherwise returns a NotNow status to the MDM server.

Would it be possible to extend this functionality to the loginwindow?

        Answer:

Installation at the loginwindow should work, depending on the license.

        • Device-assigned VPP licenses should work to allow applications to be installed at the loginwindow.
        • Applications assigned via an Apple ID requires the user to be logged-in in order to be able to install.

        Question:

For those concerned about data locality for regulatory reasons, can we be certain that our data will not leave the EU or ${COUNTRY} when it gets sucked into the cloud?

        Answer:

Ask this question in the CloudKit and iCloud Lab on Thursday.

        Question:

Will the Hypervisor framework in macOS Sierra provide bridged networking? The reason I’m asking is that this will allow VMs hosted by the Hypervisor framework to obtain and use their own IP address; rather than use a NAT.

If providing bridged networking is a security concern, has Apple considered adding an Apple-signed entitlement to control approval of the feature in the App Store?

        Answer:

Ask this question in the Networking 1 and 2 Lab on Thursday and Friday.
