Watch app you are not connected to the internet error message

No matter what I do (hard reset watch and iPhone, restore iPhone 6s Plus, reset network settings, etc.) I always get an error message saying that the update can not be checked because there is no internet connection. My iPhone is connected to the internet, my Apple Watch shows there is a connection but I still get the error message. Any suggestions, ideas on what else I could do?

I wasn't having this exact issue but my watchOS 3 download would fail to install to my Apple Watch consistently even after redownloading it 4 times. Try unpairing your AW and then repairing, then try checking for the update. Also try removing the old beta profiles from your watch before installing the watchOS beta profile.
