push notifications do not reach devices

After renewing our .pem APNS certificate, push notifications are not received by devices anymore. gateway.push.apple.com:2195 and api.push.apple.com:443 both return the length of the payload after sending (via stream socket client in php), there are no errors. Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong?

Solved. I had created the pen-file incorrectly, by mid exporting the private AND public keys to the .p12 file. After conversion to .pem file push notifications are delivered again. An error message might have saved a few days of trial and error...
