Why aren't Apple employees monitoring this forum? What gives?

These forums are a ghost town. Where is everyone? Where are the Apple engineers who should be monitoring/replying to our questions?

One would think that Apple would have an interest in maintaining these forums -- after all, problems that don't get solved here may end up in their Support system. One would think they'd want to avoid that.

It's very strange, in my opinion, for such a wealthy, successful company to basically ignore their own developer forums.

Thanks for listening, lol.

Why aren't Apple employees monitoring this forum?

They aren’t? Weird. My profile page would beg to disagree with you (-:

Seriously though, DevForums is not an official Apple support channel. Some Apple employees do try to help out here, but there’s no guarantees (especially in the lead up to WWDC).

If you post a question here and no one responds, you should seek formal support by opening a DTS tech support incident.

Just my personal comment on this.

I appreciate the way some, like Quinn -- BTW, the most active contributor by far on the forum --, contribute to the forum, with very precise and helpful answers when he feels that exchanges between developers are stuck in the sand.
But I find it useful to keep this forum a developers forum, developers helping developers, sharing their experience and knowledge, and not to become a substitute for the Apple support channel.

This being said, I regret that, when a problem is reported again and again and that no-one with in depth knowledge of the root causes jumps in.
Hello eskimo,

Thank you for the reply!

I think it's weird that you're seemingly the one and only Apple employee to consistently reply to questions on this forum. So, your active profile page isn't really proof of anything but this weirdness (Apple is a huge, wealthy company!).

As for this forum not being an "official Apple support channel" . . . well, that's kind of the problem. Here's a question: *Why* doesn't Apple have an interest in maintaining/supporting this forum? Why wouldn't Apple want to provide a better solution for its developers? All it would take is a few full time employees to run this thing, and the implementation of some features to incentivize the answering of questions, like on StackOverflow.

Thanks for the info!

Not exactly. I've seen several other from Apple actively contributing (less than Quinn for sure), often in focused areas of course.
pdm, Bedford, just to name a few.
Hi Claude31,

I hear what you're saying, but I have multiple questions open and I don't have 6 months to wait for some random Apple guy to finally address them.

These questions include How do you remove a Widget extension in Xcode and Advanced App Clip: 'This URL is already registered as an App Clip Experience'.

It would be trivial for an Apple engineer to solve these problems -- they're quite straightforward. Instead, the only response I've gotten from an engineer just happens to be for this question -- a question about this forum being insufficient. Isn't that funny?

And why is this site so bizarrely, consistently slow? It can't just be me; I'm on a new desktop Mac with a good WiFi connection. Are you experiencing slowness, too?

Thanks!
I do agree with you. That was my comment that it would be great to get someone with internal knowledge, provide a robust answer when other developers cannot provide it.

Yes, I do experience very slow response each time I open or update a page. For several seconds (up to 5 or 6), it is waiting, progress bar stalled at 3 or 4 cm, .

Unfortunately, just another illustration of the absolutely poor quality of the forum software.
Hope this topic will be addressed some day in a WWDC …

I completly agree. Also for me the developer forum is a ghost town. I hope that with the new UX improvements in the forum some Apple engineers find there way here and contribute. The only way to create a vibrant developer community is when at least 5-10 Apple engineers reply to multiple posts on a daily basis. Then also other developers will get attracted and use this forum more often.

Let‘s cross fingers that the enthusiasm that was put into the forum recently is continuing the next weeks and months and that other Apple engineers start to use the forum more frequently. But I guess most of them don’t have free time to answer questions here.

Btw, also for me the forum is very slow and I have a good internet connection and using a one year old Mac.
