VPN lets internet disconnect

I made a VPN app with openVPN protocol, the problem is that in certain cases, for example when being on the plane, and if the VPN is enabled, it disconnects from the internet.
To enable internet (cellular data) again we should turn the VPN off.
The problem only appears when being on a plane or landing in a new country.
Can anyone explain to me why this behavior?
Thank you!

It sounds like you cannot make a reliable connection to your VPN server, or your VPN is not configured to run with the cellular interface. As a side note; I am not sure how high the plane that you are on is traveling at, but generally cellular reception is hard to retain when flying in an airplane. Speaking from personally experience; depending on how high the airplane is traveling at, you may experience cellular reception coming and going and this may also be causing you problems trying to stay connected to the VPN server.
