how do I remove the thumbnail in the interface builder?

It's the small panel that shows all the uI's in it.
why do they add it in the first place? it's completely useless and just gets in the way all the time.
In the Editor Menu, you have the Minimap that you can uncheck.

I personally find this Minimap very useful in some cases and as I can hide it, I don't see any problem…
If this tool (menus are changed, but this isn't new w/12.x) is TMI, uncheck Minimap (or press ^⇧⌘M) via the Editor menu.

I would assume it was added a while back because not all devs use the tools the same way...some are more visually adept, some just want text controls they can read and process with the other side of their brains, some need less clutter, some want all the info they can get.
In addition, that's pretty useful for MacOS storyboards for which there is no zoom available…
After just using Xcode on a new MB, I have to agree it gets in the way ;)
thanks for the response guys! really helpful!

It is very annoying if you are coding on a Macbook Air. Hiding the menu item under Editor rather than View, and not having a close box on the window itself doubles the annoyance.
