"Release this version" vs "Release as Pre-Order"

Today I tried to update an app which is already in "pre-order" status.

On the Web UI, the button for the update appears as "Release this version". This made me very nervous, as it felt like it's gong to release the app immediately.

However, on the AppStoreConnect iOS app, it showed a button as "Release as Pre-Order".

I clicked the button to test my luck and it was released as "Pre-Order" successfully. Phew!

I remember the old web UI used to show the button properly, did the recent Apple update broke it?

Broke? Not exactly...

They luv to make stealth changes, for no reason, typically. Been going on seems like forever w/the store. My pet theory is someone new comes into the team and gets an attaboy for doing something, anything, as long as they label it an 'improvement to the UI. Does it matter that dev confusion results? Apparently not. Apple likes to keep us guessing...
I filed the bug. Today they told me the issue has been resolved.
